Buy a parrot - at least with one of those, when it's dead, it's dead.

With an Alexa you never really, truly, KNOW when it's not listening to you, and who it's passing what it hears on to.

Where becoming a society that's exactly the same that was portrayed in the Pixar film Wall-E... can't do anything for itself...

I've got a couple of DOTS and the SHOW that were given to me.

They're alright, although I'm not sure I'd spend £200 on one. The dots are decent value though.

The most impressive thing I do with mine is control the lights. I can make my living room look like a cheap knocking shop in a matter of seconds.

We've got a couple, they're a bit gimmicky right now, they hook up nicely with a Sonos if you have one.

In the future they'll become better when they can link up with more stuff in your house.

Use it to turn your radio on and off or order directly from Amazon with it.

My cousin has programmed his one to fart on request.

Probably worth the cost alone.

Can’t live without it even bought a dot on Black Friday for £20 to put in the car.

Got dot in every room and the big one in living room. £3.99 for amazon unlimited music. Linked to Evernote, google calendar, the lights, tv, heating etc.

For £20 it is an amazing bit of kit.

Seems a bit gimmicky.

My in laws have one and all they use it for is to put the radio on and turn it off.

Seems like a present that people buy other people that have everything.

Hark at the fucking divs that reckon the Government are going to want to listen in on their tedious conversations.

The government are welcome to listen me and my Mrs bickering about what to have for dinner and me using the word CUNT when watching West Ham

NOBODY "listens" to such stuff, you myopic twat. There's big fuck-off banks of computers analysing net traffic and if they identify anything that someone has indicated an interest in, they get informed about what was said and by whom.

It may be - but doesn't have to be - advertising agencies using the data, but any government worth it's salt will have already seen the potential of these things and would have no objection to every home having one (or six).

Re: Amazon Alexa ....anyone got one?
Got three Alexa's around the house and use them mainly as radio/spotify speakers. Also use them to control the lights in some rooms.

There's no evidence that they are triggering advertising based on what we say (they did a report on this on the One show the other night as it happens). There are lots of people who will say that they were talking about sheds* and then they got adverts up on facebook about sheds* - probably because they've been googling sheds* or one of the people they were talking to has

(or they've been reading a post on here about sheds*)

*sheds=tits/fanny/west ham or whatever

Let's face it, any government worth their salt would be much better monitoring this website to find society's undesirables.

The other thing with Alexa is that it's fucking useless at understanding most of what I say anyway

Re: Amazon Alexa ....anyone got one?
Find it strange that the only firms that offer these things are the ones that want to sell you stuff?

Listen to conversations and what families want and then spam them with adverts selling it

Re: Amazon Alexa ....anyone got one?
Got the Show and the 5 spots and use them as a video intercom throughout the house so its good to get the kids to come to dinner and links up well with spottily, etc. Also got two of the Sonos Play Ones with Alexa built in and the sound quality is fantastic.
